Open to new UIC transfer students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Transfer Success sessions are optional, one-hour sessions created for new  LAS transfer students. Sessions have different themes to help students become more familiar with fellow transfer peers, LAS Academic Advising, and UIC.

Transfer Success Welcome Social

Come get FREE UIC-LAS gear and mingle with other transfer students, while you learn about UIC and the LAS Academic Advising Center! Bring a friend and WIN a prize!

Student Leadership Development & Volunteer Services Session

Thursday, October 5th, 12-1pm  -  Grant Hall (GH) 301 (Language Oasis)

Student Leadership Development and Volunteer Services is the place on campus to build leadership skills and get some hands-on experience. If you only want to volunteer once a month, that’s great! If you don’t really want a leadership title or to lead an organization on campus, no worries! There is something for everyone. Come see what’s available and find a new connection at UIC.

Student Panel on Research and Scholarships

Thursday, October 12th, 1-2 pm  -  University Hall (UH) 1501 (15th floor)

Interested in doing research and or earning a scholarship but are unsure of where to start? Come hear from other LAS students who have earned scholarships and/or are completing research. Learn about their first steps and advice for others.

Internship Bootcamp Workshop

Wednesday, October 18th, 12–1pm  -  University Hall (UH) 850 (8th floor)

Interested in securing an internship?  Not sure where to start?  Within this workshop, you will learn about getting started with your internship search, how to stand out as a strong candidate, and how to explore key resources to generate leads based on your interests. Learn about the benefits of an internship and how you can also earn graduation credit.  Internships are a valuable way to gain experience, build skills, and explore career possibilities.  Get a jumpstart on the process and join us for this workshop to learn more! Workshop will be led by LAS Director for Career Development and Major Exploration, Gina Anselmo.

Finding Your Fit Workshop

Curious about how to connect your major to your interests?  Need help with next steps in your major and career exploration?  Join us to learn starting points for exploring how various majors can connect with your goals.  Explore your questions through this one-hour workshop where we unpack resources and exercises that will help you understand elements of your professional identity and how you can apply your interests, skills, and values to your major options.

Transfer Finish Line - A guide to finishing your degree at UIC!

Thursday, October 26th, 3-4pm  -  University Hall (UH) 401 (4th floor)

Now that you’re here, let start to put together your plan to graduate! Whether you have 60 credits to complete, or just a semester or two, we can give you some tools and guidance to help build your degree plan at UIC. Fitting in things like research, study abroad, internships, and other interests can feel a bit daunting. Advisors will point you in the right direction for whatever your goals may be.  After you leave this workshop, we recommend meeting with your General and Department Advisors to verify everything works. Then all that’s left is to follow the plan!

Orientation feel like a blur? We understand that UIC’s registration process is most likely different from your previous institution, so we have created space to walk through the tools you'll need. In this interactive session you will prepare for registration through finding your time ticket, midterm grades, and understanding whether or not you have registration holds. We will help you access and understand your Degree Audit Report (DARs) and online registration tools so you can know what courses to plan for and what questions to ask your general or departmental academic advisors.

Exploring Your Pre-Health Educational Goal

Thursday, December 7th, 1-2pm   -  University Hall (UH) 850 (8th floor)

Discover how to maximize your educational goal at UIC during this workshop. Topics will include information about the pre-health team, which educational goals are offered, and resources you can utilize during your time in LAS.
