Academic Policies and Procedures
Students are responsible for knowing university and college policies and following the rules and requirements in relation to them. Students may consult with an LAS academic advisor if they have questions regarding any academic policies, requirements, or procedures. All UIC and LAS academic policy information can be found in the UIC Undergraduate Catalog.
Below is a selection of important LAS academic policies and procedures:
Exceptions to Rules and Requirements
Requests for an exception to a college policy or requirement are evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the Office of Student Academic Affairs. Students are expected to have knowledge of and follow the rules and requirements as stated in the UIC Undergraduate Catalog. Requests for exceptions to policies or waivers of requirements should be discussed first with an LAS academic advisor or college dean who will advise the student on the matter.
When a request merits consideration, the student may be asked to submit a written petition that includes the nature of the request and desired outcome. The petition must be accompanied with supporting documentation, as appropriate. Petitions are considered regularly by a committee of LAS deans and academic advising professionals in the Office of LAS Student Academic Affairs. Committee decisions are final. It ordinarily requires 2-4 weeks for a petition case to be adjudicated.
