Special Programs

UIC offers numerous special programs and distinctive opportunities to support students’ academic success including the Honors College, the Guaranteed Professional Program Admissions program, Office of External Fellowships, and many Study Abroad options.

UIC Honors College

The Honors College provides an environment for advanced intellectual growth and a foundation for life-long learning. The Honors College is a community of students seeking extra intellectual challenges as well as campus and community engagement and leadership experiences. Faculty members enjoy collaborating with some of the most motivated students at UIC. The Honors College gives students many special opportunities including small seminars, faculty mentors, undergraduate research, honors activities, leadership and social experiences, dedicated facilities, scholarships, and supportive professional advisors.

UIC Guaranteed Professional Program Admissions

The Guaranteed Professional Program Admissions (GPPA) program allows a limited number of first year students per year to be admitted to UIC with guaranteed admission to one of several professional degree programs. Students follow a specific curriculum and meet established performance criteria to maintain guaranteed admission.

With the security of UIC GPPA, students are able to focus on undergraduate studies and have the freedom to pursue many subject areas and disciplines. In addition, participants have early and frequent contact with professional school faculty and advisors. Most students in GPPA also benefit from the UIC Honors College services.

UIC GPPA Programs include Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Dentistry. The UIC GPPA Law program partners with the John Marshall Law School. Visit the GPPA website to find out more about the GPPA Programs.

UIC Office of External Fellowships

The Office of External Fellowships assists current UIC undergraduates in searching and applying for nationally competitive scholarships, fellowships and external scholarship awards. External Fellowships provides information about nationally competitive awards, advice on application preparation, and assistance throughout the scholarship application process. The Office helps UIC students present themselves clearly and effectively for awards that best suit their needs.

UIC Study Abroad

With a focus on supporting as many students as possible in becoming effective and influential leaders in civil society, the Study Abroad Office strives to: internationalize the UIC curriculum through program opportunities on six continents; engage UIC’s highly diverse student population to become intentional learners with increased global awareness; and assure student access to scholarship and grant support for an international academic experience.

Study Abroad's goal is to provide access to a variety of international academic programming opportunities and remain committed to making overseas study and international cultural immersion an integral part of the UIC undergraduate educational experience, better preparing students to meet the challenges and opportunities of an increasingly global society.
