The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences offers excellent opportunities and advantages for pre-health students to pursue their academic and professional interests. Our students can study over 40 majors and minors in the sciences, humanities, and social sciences. Popular areas of study include Biological Sciences, Psychology, Chemistry, English, Neuroscience, Sociology, Biochemistry, Spanish, Economics, and much more.
The College recently established a new major, Integrated Health Studies with concentrations in either Health and Science or Behavioral Health. Course options include Biology of the Brain, Human Physiological Anatomy, Medical Ethics, Abnormal Psychology, and Integrated Health Sciences, and more. The major will offer interdisciplinary study of the biological, behavioral, economical, and socio-cultural determinants of human health. Graduates are prepared for admission to health science graduate and professional schools, and pursue a variety of health science careers including health-care administration, public health, pharmaceutical practice, and more.
UIC is the state’s largest healthcare educator and home to seven health science colleges, including medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and dentistry. UIC is also a member of the Illinois Medical District (IMD), the largest urban medical district with the most diverse population in the U.S.

LAS Pre-Health Advising
The Pre-Health Advising team offers specialized advising for students interested in pursuing future professional studies in a variety of health careers. Advisors encourage and support students in evaluating strengths and weaknesses, life goals and their intended career path within individual appointments, small group sessions and workshops. Students will be guided to incorporate prerequisite coursework alongside bachelor's degree requirements to enhance their professional credentials and expand future career possibilities. The college offers a first-year seminar, LAS 103: Introduction to Healthcare and the Health Professions, to connect students to pre-health resources, career exploration, and it also features guest presenters from UIC’s health science colleges.
